Family reunionI wanted to bring my Finnish family to my new home country, Netherlands, and show them scenes from places that have had significance during my stay here. All the images are composites of 3D scans and photographs and were inspired by Nick Knight's series Sweet ( [link] ).

The right to existOn December 15th 2012 The Hague local government decided on clearing a refugee camp settled at the Koekamp field near The Royal Academy of Art. The refugees were forced by the police to leave the next day. The day was documented in a blog dedicated to their situation: [link]

1mpressionsThis is a series of night street portraits about the uncertain feeling of making a first acquaintance with a stranger.

Each photo in this series has been taken during around midnight, from 11PM to 1AM. I tried to search for locations that would make the subject small, and to emphasize the feeling of being alone in the night.

I utilized the harsh vertical lighting of various street lamps and their ability to hide the person's face in the shadows on each portrait to create an ominous atmosphere of unfamilirity. It's very fascinating to realize how hiding a person's face flips the whole athmosphere upside-down. The story of the photo changes altogether.

Regardless of how pleasant these encounters were in reality, one cannot help feeling a little bit reserved.
